This was a class of nuclear powered ballistic missile subs which were part of the US nuclear deterrent in the late 1980’s. Length 116m 382ft Beam 10m 33ft Displacement 6709 tonnes. This is a model from the second series of Minic ships made by Hornby in the 70's This is SS United States, the Holder of the Blue Riband at various times for the fastest travel cross the Atlantic She is 10 inches long or 250mm. The model is in reasonable condition . The funnel fins are intact the front mast is present but the deck has been overpainted a mauve colour. A bit dusty too.
