This is a slight second example of our model of HMS Coventry D118, a Type 42 Batch One Sheffield Class Guided Missile Destroyer. She was 4820 tons and armed with a 4.5inch gun, Sea Dart, Torpedoes and a Lynx helicopter. She was 410ft or 125metres in length. There were 270 crew.
On 25th May HMS Coventry was hit by three bombs causing 19 deaths and 30 were badly injured. Major systems were destroyed and in 20 minutes she capsized and sank. She is a war grave on the sea bed. Reference X05 Our model was part of our commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. For reasons of identifying the model in a fleet we have included her pennant number as well as the black line and the St Georges Flag which were part of the ID recognition. We realise that in the Falklands her pennant number was painted over but think that this is a better model for a collection or memory. Made of metal from CNCollectables and in a good box. She is a research vessel owned by the Natural Environment Research Council and operated by the British Antarctic Survey for the purposes of both research and logistic support. The ship was intended to replace a pair of existing vessels, RRS James Clark Ross and RRS Ernest Shackleton. The ship is 125 metres (410 ft) long, with a beam of 24 metres (79 ft). Her draught is 7 metres (23 ft) with a planned cruising speed of 13 knots (24 km/h; 15 mph) with a range of 19,000 nautical miles (35,000 km; 22,000 mi) at that speed.
