1 to1 SHIP NEWS June 2025

This month has seen the sad departure of HMS Bristol from Portsmouth. The only type 82 destroyer built and the last ship which served in the Falklands.    Towed away to the ultimate fate of the scrapyard. A great looking ship which suddenly became obsolescent along with the carrier design CVA 01, ( of which we have a few models.)

More positive news is that of Type 31 HMS Venturer appearing at Rosyth for barge movement and fitting out. (Again, we make the 31 without a pennant and have recently had a new run of these smart looking ships.)

Also, there’s photos of type 26 HMS Glasgow moving from stage 2 to stage 3 of its construction and completion on the Clyde. (in stock)

Also on the departure list was HMS Dragon from Portsmouth fully crewed and on duty.  I have felt involved in the type 45s ever since I say a bow section whilst driving on the north bank of the Clyde.  Then of course We funded the Triang Minic Ships Series  3 and in 2014 received several thousand models of all six ships, mostly in the unique boxes designed by Charles for CNCollectables. There were also some on cards.

It has been more than sad that the 45s were found to be unable to cope with warm seas. A lot of red tape with the US suppliers got in the way in their repair and it saddens me so much that most of the 6 have been out of service for much of their lives.  MOD incompetence ruled alas. I hope that the new 26s and 31s have a less troubled introduction and service.

On to the tiddlers in the news, HMS Severn returned to Portsmouth and HMS Spey sailed through the international channel of the Taiwan Strait just to make a point about international waters.
