I recently realised one of  my bucket list hopes by tacking an extra day on to my Liverpool Ship Show journey. The Canal Museum at Ellesmere is amazing and superb and enormous.  Not only 70 historic craft in one basin or another there are such a variety of buildings preserved from what was really an 18th and 19th century small town.  4 of the 14 terraced houses built for workers are preserved and each one is furnished in a different era.  Then there is the Island warehouse with a huge amount of canal related artefacts.

The site is adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal to which it was connected and I saw two ships sailing down the canal.

I spent 5 hours there and will return to spend more hours and explore more of the site. Two bookshops and secondhand cds and dvds in one of them along with a number of antique penny in the slot games and real old pennies available. Had a barm for breakfast and another for lunch in the cafe..
