Hello and here is our first newsletter of 2023…grab a cuppa and enjoy!

We wish you well, and offer many thanks for all the support we have received in bringing new and old ships to you.

We welcome feedback on the newsletter as well as items mentioned below. You can amend your details, subscribe or remove yourself from this mailing list by using the links at the bottom of the page.

We were closed for 2 weeks in early February because of family priorities, and have also had the opportunity to do some sorting out of stuff.

Any sort out involves discovery of ships we didn’t recall having, so we have some special offers on the site under the Blue Monday heading or as 2023 Special Offers.

We like to find good homes for these models in order to find room for new ones we want to make. We are still finding items from our now emptied lock up such as painting masters of models made or pre-production samples.

We regularly update the two ‘Releases’ pages on the website. There’s New Models and former Mountford Stock pages. We will continue to update them as our plans develop, ships sell out and new items are introduced.

Perhaps the most exciting new model for the year is HMS Glasgow F88, the first in class type 26 frigate which recently was floated down the Clyde for fitting out. We have waited until we can see just what she looks like in order to make the best possible model. This year we will also have her batch one sisters, HMS Cardiff F89 and HMS Belfast F90.

At the beginning of March we collected a mix of new and remade models. Our three Brittany Ferries have been remastered and updated and are now appearing in metal. Bretagne is the first of these and there are already photos on the site.

Another new model is the 1970s version of USS Oriskany We already make her in her 1950s format and the new version is the one we have often been asked about.

Also in production are several other USS Carriers and USS Bob Hope. There will be Forrestal, Independence, Midway, Ranger and Saratoga.

Up-to-date information about these is on our New and Recent Releases page on the website. Other expected models include some Type 15, type 16, type 22 batch 2 and batch 3 and County class batch one destroyers.

This month we will release our new model of HMS Illustrious, R06, sister of Invincible which we made as a brand-new model in 2022 and which was very well received.

In the used models department, we have been listing a variety of Triang 1 Series ships, many with boxes and also a number of pre-owned 1250 scale ships from a variety of manufacturers.

2023 Ship Shows

We attended Wellow show last weekend; it was lovely to meet some of you in person!

We’re looking forward to more, including:

On Sundays 16th July and 17th November we’ll be back at Wellow.

(Wellow Village Hall near Romsey, Hampshire)

Sunday 16th April – the Theale show, run by Stuart Barnes Watson of Anchorage Models.

Sunday 30th July we’ll be at the Lincoln Ship Show.

(Faldingworth Village Hall)

Saturday 23rd September – The Liverpool show organised by the World Ship Society.

(Christchurch Community Centre in Crosby, Liverpool L22)

We shall add more dates when we know them and may include some more general Toy Fairs if we can.

Needless to say, we have to mention the difficulties encountered with sending parcels outside the UK this year. In January the Royal Mail database was hacked by organised crime and effectively stopped all overseas parcels within the system and from entering the system.

We were unable to track parcels sent before the hacking, and we held back orders for a while. Then we explored and used other parcel services but found that their delivery times are poor, they are more expensive, and less reliable.

As of the 16th February we have used the renewed Royal Mail database via online purchasing and can now despatch these via local Post Office.

Many thanks for your patience.
