She is the tenth NLB ship to carry this name which is named after the very famous lighthouse at Alexandria in Ancient Egypt, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Pharos and her sister ship, Galatea were built in Gdansk in Poland in 2006/07. She is 85metres in length, 3599 gross tonnes and has 7 officers and 11 crew. Catalogue number M03 This model is 70mm or 2.5 inches in length. In 2020 there was a news item about this ship which was in Oban port. Because of lockdown the crew had to stay on board before their next duty. But from his gran's garden a little boy could see his daddy who was Captain of Pharos. A case of waving and not hugging. So as we were making Galatea it made a lot of sense to make Pharos too. Brilliant models imho. -

We have just found a couple or three examples of our Mark 1 model of RRS Sir David Attenborough. She is 15000 tonnes and built at Birkenhead to be able to cope with Polar Class 4 and 5 ice. Her nickname is Boaty McBoatface after a public consultation for her name. One of remote submersibles now has that name. Loads of cranes and tech stuff on this ship. This was the fourth model of the metal XAS range and released in June 2019. Scale is 1/1250. The model is about 100mms or 4 inches in length. These examples are from our first run of this model so there is no forward gantry at the bows as our model came out before the ship was finished. She is a research vessel owned by the Natural Environment Research Council and operated by the British Antarctic Survey for the purposes of both research and logistic support. The ship was intended to replace a pair of existing vessels, RRS James Clark Ross and RRS Ernest Shackleton. The ship is 125 metres (410 ft) long, with a beam of 24 metres (79 ft). Her draught is 7 metres (23 ft) with a planned cruising speed of 13 knots (24 km/h; 15 mph) with a range of 19,000 nautical miles (35,000 km; 22,000 mi) at that speed. She has a helicopter deck and can accommodate a crew of 30 and 60 research staff. ref XAS 004 Posted all over the world with tracked postage. -

Eric Lord was an HMI with a specialist brief in this area. This is a slight second example of our model of HMS Coventry D118, a Type 42 Batch One Sheffield Class Guided Missile Destroyer. She was 4820 tons and armed with a 4.5inch gun, Sea Dart, Torpedoes and a Lynx helicopter. She was 410ft or 125metres in length. There were 270 crew.
On 25th May HMS Coventry was hit by three bombs causing 19 deaths and 30 were badly injured. Major systems were destroyed and in 20 minutes she capsized and sank. She is a war grave on the sea bed. Reference X05 Our model was part of our commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. For reasons of identifying the model in a fleet we have included her pennant number as well as the black line and the St Georges Flag which were part of the ID recognition. We realise that in the Falklands her pennant number was painted over but think that this is a better model for a collection or memory. Made of metal from CNCollectables and in a good box. This is the United States Navy submarine set. One Ohio class and one Los Angeles class . From Tri-ang Minic Ships. They are mint and carded. Los Angeles Class SSN -The Los Angeles class SSNs with their improved quieting, increased operating speeds, sophisticated command and control systems, highly accurate sensor suites, and advanced weapons systems are among the most advanced submarines of their type in the world. Designed primarily for Carrier Battle Group (CVBG) escort duties they provided anti-submarine warfare (ASW) defense against Soviet submarines as well as the ability to attack capital ships in a Soviet surface action group (SAG). While ASW is still their primary role in addition to their Mk 48 and ADCAP torpedoes the Los Angeles class SSNs are armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles for precision land attack missions. Their stealth, speed, mobility and endurance also makes them ideal for covert missions, such as deploying special forces, and the later ships, SSN 751 through SSN 773, are capable of laying mines from their torpedo tubes. In common with all submarines operated by the US Navy today the Los Angeles class are powered by a pressurized water reactor coupled to steam turbines which allows them to remain deployed and submerged for extended periods of time. They carry sufficient supplies to support a crew of over one hundred personnel for up to 90 days and are equipped with sophisticated atmosphere control systems to replenish oxygen and remove carbon dioxide as well as two distilling plants to convert sea water to fresh water for drinking, washing, and other uses. Ohio Class SSBN -The sole mission of the Ohio class fleet ballistic missile submarines (SSBN), which were designed to replace the US Navy's aging Polaris submarines, is to provide strategic deterrence with the fourteen Trident armed boaats carrying approximately 50% of US strategic nuclear warheads. They are the largest submarines ever built for the US Navy, second only in size to the Russian Typhoon Class SSBN's, and were designed specifically for extended deterrent patrols providing America's most potent and survivable nuclear strike capability. Every Ohio class SSBN is at sea at least 66 percent of the time, including major overhaul periods of twelve months every nine years, and each submarine is assigned two crews, designated Blue and Gold, with each crew operating the ship on a 95 day deployment cycle comprising a 70 day combat patrol and a 25 day transfer period. To reduce time in port for crew turnover, replenishment and maintenance the ships are fitted with three large diameter logistics hatches to facilitate rapid loading of supply pallets, replacement equipment modules and machinery components as required. The Ohio class have a double hull design with a streamlined outer hull enclosing a cylindrical pressure hull structure of HY-80 steel which is supported by circular frames and enclosed by hemispherical heads at both ends. The outer hull was designed specifically for efficient cruising underwater, enabling the ship to move quietly through the water at high speeds, while the pressure hull was designed to provide an enclosure with sufficient strength to enable the ship to operate deep enough to avoid easy detection while providing enough space for weapons, crew, and equipment. The fourteen Ohio class SSBN's armed with Trident II D5 provide the sea based leg of America's nuclear triad of strategic deterrent forces. Each ship carries 24 Trident II D5 missiles each of which has eight multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs) allowing each Ohio class SSBN to designate a total of 192 targets. All missiles can be launched in less than one minute. S 890 Impressive and very detailed. Ohio 5.6 inches or 91mm Los Angeles 3.6inches 44mm -

Having made a Virginia Class it seemed right to make a full hull version as would be seen in a dockyard. This is a full hull out of the water/dry dock version of the Virginia Class submarine of which there are currently 17 in service with the US Navy and more being built. This is a second production run and these dont have a self supporting stand so need a dry dock or a bit of blue tack. Only just noticed this difference. 8700tons 370ft long. Length 90mm nearly 4 inches Ref S103 -
